Meet the 2017 race Honoree former Army Crew Chief Zeke Crozier, wounded in Afghanistan when his helicopter went down. This year’s Walk for Thought Honorary chair is Will Shields, former Chiefs lineman and Pro Football Hall of Fame member.

Please keep in mind that parking is very limited in the Loose Park area. Please carpool and give yourself plenty of time to make your event. Parking is available on nearby side streets, Visitation School, Pembroke Hill School & St. Teresa Academy. Streets on the course are closed beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Course Highlights: 

8K Run (4.97 miles) 
Start: 8:00 am

The course will still take you north on Ward Parkway after it winds you through neighborhoods around Loose Park and the famous Meyers Circle Fountain. The 8K is chip timed and has a time limit of 1 hour and 15 minutes. It also offers a good walk opportunity for those who can keep a steady pace for 4.97 miles. Timed course begins and ends at the Pavilion in Loose Park. See the section below for awards.

5K (3.1 miles) Run/Walk
Start: 8:40 am

Beautiful course that winds through neighborhoods around Loose Park and on beautiful Ward Parkway. This race will also feature full chip timing and age group awards (see below).

2K Walk for Thought (1.5 miles)
Start: 9:00 am

Looking for an opportunity to celebrate your loved one who was touched by brain injury? This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the life or memory of that special person. This year the 2 K Walk for Thought will begin at the 8K/5K start line and circle Loose Park, ending at the Race Finish line. The Walk for Thought is more about celebration and camaraderie than competition. The 2016 Honorary Chairs for the Walk for Thought will be former Chiefs’ linebacker Shawn Barber and his wife Nicole. Fun4Kids Event
Start: 9:45 am

Children ages 1-8 can experience the thrill of victory in multiple events including the Kiddie Dash. Fun4kids events will take place on the grassy area adjacent to Wornall Rd. and 55th Street. All children receive an award.

Packet pick-up and registration will take place at Garry Gribble’s Running Sports in Ward Parkway Shopping Center, 8600 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO on Saturday, May 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 29 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration on Race day will be at Loose Park Pavilion from 6:30 a.m. until 15 minutes prior to each event start time.

Continuing our discounts this year for Military and Youth! We are offering a Military and Youth (Under 18) $5 Discount for those participating in either the 8K or 5K. We ask that you provide valid ID at Packet Pickup.

8K and 5K – Awards will be given to the top overall Male and Female and the top master (40+) Male and Female in both the 8K and 5K. The top three finishers in each age division in the 8K and 5K, male and female, will receive awards.

RACE DAY SCHEDULE: (Be sure to note start times for both the 8K and 5K)
6:30 a.m. – Late registration and packet pick-up begins.
7:30 a.m. – 8K late registration and packet pick-up ends.
8:00 a.m. – 8K START.
8:15 a.m. – 5K-mile late registration and packet pick-up ends.
8:40 a.m. – 5K START.
9:00 a.m – 2K Walk for Thought START (Not a timed event.) 
9:45 a.m. – Fun4Kids Event in grassy area between Pavilion and Rose Garden begins. 

Both the 8K and the 5K feature electronic timing.
